Zackariah Harris Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 750mL

Yes, that is Zack with a k, not an h. Now we bought this because Chelmsford, MA is unique, and because we are still staunch fans of the Ezra Brooks – as what looks like a knockoff is 10 times the original. However, we have to contend with the other side of the spectrum and whether this is really more like an Evan Williams.

The result is somewhere in between. It’s even cheaper than both aforementioned rivals, and the taste while not stellar at least mixes well enough to be functional. Which is essentially the word of the day here, because this doesn’t delight, or cause anger – but it does what it’s supposed to do at the core – get one inebriated. And not sadly, be a good whiskey.

What they Say: “Zackariah Harris is made in Kentucky where Bourbon is an art form and where generations respect the hard work and time-honored traditions that make it America’s most treasured spirit. Rich, smooth and delicious, Zackariah Harris is a classic Kentucky Bourbon.”

Taste: 4.5 – You get a lot of that sweet caramel bourbon flavor, but before it can even be considered it gives way to some truly hard to swallow bourbon

Aftertaste: 2.5 – The mild sweet parts here fail to hide how face-punching this really is.  The aftertaste is like the latter parts of the taste on steroids – you will wince.

Burn/Smooth: 4.0 – Despite the fact that this hits like a truck – it isn’t like a burn so much as smooth, and sweet fiery death. It’s not smooth, but that sugar helps the medicine go down.

Aroma: 6.0 – It’s sure sweet as a good bourbon, and there’s no harshness to break up the party. That being said it’s a rather short shindig as the smell fails to linger.

Honesty: 5.0 – Not a lot of wank, more talk of the region which tracks. We do take half a point off for being Zackariah with a K, but overall it’s a fine cheap alternative – but fails to add anything to the convo.

Mixability: 5.0

W/ Rocks: 4.0 – This turns the whiskey into a more compact package where the heat and sweet are mixed. Overall it’s not a whole lot smoother, or a whole lot better.

Whiskey and Coke: 6.0 – You get something here to be okay with, something that makes you think that maybe the whole ass nine dollars wasn’t a waste. While it by no means makes the W&C the best, it’s drinkable at last.

Value: 5.0 – That is stupid cheap, and for being able to mix with cola – not out of the realm of usable. That being said this is otherwise real rough and fails to match the 4 dollars more for Evan it’s the main competitor in knockoff shite.

Final Thoughts: It’s cheap, it mixes okay, and still just not a fan because that’s all we can see. It is otherwise another passable whiskey to be mostly forgotten once out of sight. Another that looks like a knockoff blending into the background.
